SPRING PREVIEW: North Callaway with good mix in field, of girls

North Callaway has a good collection of athletes in certain areas of track and field.

Head coach Reid Randolph said there are 64 athletes in the program, with nine seniors being the fewest and 21 freshmen being the most. He hopes the veterans can find success and the newcomers can grow for a strong team as a whole.

“Our field event groupings are currently becoming a rather good group, along with our sprinters and hurdlers,” Randolph said. “It appears that there will be a number of talented girls, who will be evenly distributed throughout the events.”

Leading the list is state-qualifying triple jumper Jocelyn Siegel, who is a sophomore that will be key for North Callaway in the jumping and sprinting events. Siegel missed a state medal by one spot last year after being the Eastern Missouri Conference triple jump champion.

Madyson Gordon was the pole vault conference champion and will also sprint to lead the group of returning girls, Grace Rasmussen is a middle distance runner who competed at state cross country, Alex Craighead will be a hurdler and thrower, Lexi Angeles is a jumper, Braelyn Kuda is a hurdler and sprinter, Kierstyn O’Neal is a thrower and Brooklyn Pitt is a sprinter.

For the boys, Cade Miller and Noah Welch are returning sprinters, and Donovan Seiling and Gunnar Wenneker come back as throwers. Max Ferguson will be a senior but also a newcomer in sprints, hurdles and jumps, and Hunter Jansen is a newcoming middle distance runner who is a junior.

“We want to finish in the top three as a team at our meets and show improvement as the season progresses,” Randolph said.
