Van-Far golf has appeared at state the past two years and has everyone back from a year ago but wants to be better.
There will be six golfers for Van-Far this season, including the five from last year, but head coach Jay Orr said he wants to see a certain something from this year’s team.
“Last year, we played well at times and had some great match and tournament results, but then at times, not so well and too inconsistent,” Orr said. “Coming into this year, we felt like we didn't play to our capabilities. Our goal this year is to clean that up and be more consistent from match to match.”
Kaleb Baskett and Kasen Christian each return after competing at state for the second straight season. Pacey Reading is a senior along with Christian who was on the state team from two years ago. The three sophomores will be Bryce Reading, Blake Riffle and Maxx Schuckenbrock.
“All three upperclassmen are very seasoned and experienced with tournament play,” Orr said. “This will be our key strength if we are to be successful. The sophomores now have a year's experience. We should see an improvement from last year, which should strengthen the team.”
