TRACK ROUNDUP: Mexico’s Benjamin achieves PR, Don Dobson championship

Mexico’s Viviana Benjamin was at her best on Thursday in Fulton.

The senior ran a personal-best time of 13.52 in the 3200-meter run to win the event at the Don Dobson Invitational. The boys earned four event titles to help the Bulldogs finish fourth out of eight schools with 106 points, which trailed Southern Boone’s winning 166 points.

Tyler Grimes won the 800 and Morgan Grubb won the pole vault, and then they each were on the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. On the 4x100 team were Grimes, Anthony Shivers, Grubb and Alex Rowan while the 4x400 team had Grimes, Shivers, Grubb and Charlie Fisher.

Finishing in second place were Maggie Ramsey in the girls 1600, Sidney Turlington in the girls 3200, the girls 4x800 team of Ramsey, Emma Seibert, Benjamin and Turlington, the girls 4x400 team of Alexis Smythe, Seibert, Ella Raines and Alexandra Terry, Anthony Shivers in the boys 100, Thomas Peuster in the boys 1600, and the boys 4x200 team of Davontae Frame, Taye Potter, Charlie Fisher and Shivers.

Taking third place were Smythe in the girls 200 with a personal-best 28.54, Teazia Potter in the girls discus with a personal-best 28.76 meters, Fisher in the boys 400, Peuster in the boys 800 with a personal-best 2:09.62, and the 4x800 team of Frame, Guy Fairchild, Thomas Peuster and Andrew Peuster.

Powell wins 1600 for Missouri Military Academy at Fulton meet

Bryson Powell ran to another victory on Thursday in Fulton.

Powell won the 1,600-meter run for Missouri Military Academy, which finished fifth out of eight schools with 83 points, with a time of 4:46.96 on Thursday at the Don Dobson Invitational. Mexico’s Thomas Peuster was close behind in the second with a time of 4:49.46.

Other highlight Colonel performances included Elijan Canonico taking third in the 110 hurdles, Ky-mani Erskine finishing third in the high jump and Batbileg Bataa getting third in the triple jump.

Paris wins six events at Salisbury Relays

Paris made an impact on Thursday at the Salisbury Relays.

The boys won four events and the girls had two meet champions.

For the boys, Alex Williams won the 400, Drew Williams won the 800, and the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams won their respective races. Finished second was Landen Chapman in the 1600 and 3200.

On the girls side, Alexandria Tullius won the 1600 while Mairyn Kinnaman was the 3200 champion. Tullius took second in the 3200 and Kinnaman was the runner-up in the 1600 to lead the second-place finishers, which also included Sophia Crusha in the 800 and the 4x800 relay team. Khloee Hendren finished third in the 400.

Community R-6 junior high finishes CAC meet with two conference champions

Along with the high school on Wednesday in Glasgow, Community R-6 junior high had all-conference athletes.

At the Central Activities Conference meet, Caden Thomas was the conference champion in the boys discus and Grace Welch was the girls 100 hurdles CAC champion.

Other Trojans who earned all-conference honors included second-places by Rett Curtis in the boys shot put and discus, second place by Ezra Johnson in the 100 hurdles, the second-place girls 4x200 relay team of Ana McLeod, Kooper Schafer, Kaytlynn Arens and Natali Sommer, the second-place boys 4x400 relay team of Will Swaim, Layton Wright, KaTavyn Wheeler, Caden Thomas, and the third-place boys 4x100 relay team of Colton Peak, Ezra Johnson, Layton Wright, Caden Thomas.

Mexico’s Grubb becomes middle school NCMC pole vault champion

His brother Morgan has been winning and placing high in pole vault competitions in high school, and Titus Grubb was the best in middle school.

Grubb became the North Central Missouri Conference middle school meet champion in the pole vault on Saturday at the conference meet hosted by Mexico, earning the lone top honor for the Bulldogs.

Christian Bass finished third in the 400-meter dash to medal for Mexico, and two boys relays also finished in the top three to finish on the medal stand. The 4x800 relay team of Carter Jackson, Israel Hernandez-Jarquin, Luke Pezley and Bass finished second, and the 4x200 relay team of Grubb, Houston Fowler, Jiles Williams and David Richard finished third.

Nobody medaled for the Mexico girls, but Jordyn Gipson and Kaili Cox each came close with fourth-place finishes in the 400 and 800-meter run, respectively.
