Community R-6 golfs in tough field in Palmyra
Community R-6 has been immersed in quality golf.
Community attended the varsity and junior varsity tournaments in Palmyra, hosted by the Class 2 state champion Panthers. Monroe City, Centralia, Scotland County, Class 2 state runner-up South Shelby, Canton, Clark County and Highland were also competing, but Palmyra won the 18-hole tournament with a score of 292.
“Being around these kinds of teams helps breed golf etiquette, what managing the course looks like, etc,” head coach Bob Curtis said. “Our players are getting a chance to play with some of the best players in the state which give us insight on where we want to go and who we want to eventually be.”
Ezra Johnson was the low 18 hole round for the week for the Trojans with a 91, Braysen Glasgow shot a 96, Cooper Rohan a 98, and Houston Hogan a 101. The Trojans shot a 395 on Wednesday in the varsity tournament beating Highland who shot a 417.
The Trojans also turned a 437 in during the JV tournament edging out a close team score with South Shelby who shot a 439.
“It has been a fun spring so far,” head coach Bob Curtis said. “This spring's team is very competitive for the top 10 spots as a lot of golfers are shooting similar scores and dropping their stroke average every week.”
Community is back in action today at the Central Activities Conference Tournament in Moberly.
