Utterback scores 1,000th point in 52-39 win at Wright City
Elliott Utterback reached a significant threshold and then the Van-Far girls did the same.
Utterback scored her 1,000th career point in a 52-39 win at Eastern Missouri Conference foe Wright City (6-17. 2-8 EMO) on Feb. 17, which was the Lady Indians’ 12th victory of the season. Van-Far (12-13, 5-5 EMO) hasn’t won at least 12 games since 2012.
Utterback finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds, Kenya Jones followed with 14 points and two steals, Mylee Keller had eight points, Aviana Early finished with 12 rebounds and five steals, and Chloe Zumwalt had nine rebounds and three blocks.
Reading scores 32 in 58-38 Van-Far boys win at Wright City
Pacey Reading had a big night to end the regular season.
The Van-Far senior scored 32 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in a 58-38 win at Eastern Missouri Conference foe Wright City. Van-Far (19-7, 8-2 EMO) trailed 14-11 after one quarter but scored 20 points the next quarter and held Wright City (6-19, 2-8 EMO) to single digits in the final three quarters.
Offensively, we were sloppy early with lazy passes and no movement then we started executing better,” head coach Pat Connaway said. “Execution always seems better when you knock shots down.”
Bryce Reading had eight points, and Gibson Condie finished with seven points in Van-Far’s seventh straight conference win to close out the regular season.
“I love the way we are playing right now, but I am also very concerned about having a nine-day layoff in between games,” Connaway said. “We need to have some really good competitive practices to get ready to face the winner of Clopton and Silex in the district semifinals.”
