Grant Van Horn and Claire Hudson were selected for the 2025 Bill Johnson award that was presented during the senior athletic banquet at Mexico High School on May 7.
This award was established in 1948 in honor of Bill Johnson for the most outstanding Mexico High School student on the field, in the classroom and in community life. The purpose of the trophy is to honor Bill Johnson by paying tribute to a job well done and to inspire others to be better citizens.
Van Horn is a four-time wrestling state medalist, including a state championship this past season, and tied the program’s all-time career wins record. The Central Missouri wrestling signee was also an all-conference and all-district linebacker during his senior year. Hudson played basketball, soccer and tennis during her Mexico career. The Kirkwood Community College basketball signee earned all-conference, all-district and KMZU Dream Team honors in her senior basketball season that ended in the state quarterfinals.
Addison Paden and Hunter Bickell received the NFHS Award of Excellence, which recognizes athletes “for exemplary display of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity,” on the same night. Paden was in soccer and wrestling during her Mexico career while the William Woods signee Bickell ran cross country and track.
