Drake Welch ended his athletic career with Community R-6 at the highest level.
The senior competed in the Class 1 boys javelin competition at the state track and field meet Friday at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City. Welch finished 12th with a throw of 42.51 meters, which happened on his second of three throws, and missed qualifying for finals.
Welch threw javelin, discus and shot put for Community R-6 this season but won a Central Activities Conference championship in the javelin. He had a throw of 42.56 meters that day.
Welch’s personal-best was 46.67 meters earlier this season at the Monroe City Invitational. The eighth-place throw at state this year was 43.60 meters.
