Wolfpack Academy soccer captures fourth gold medal

The Wolfpack Academy finished with a 6-2 record to end the Boonville M-3 Competitive 5-v-5 League to secure the first-place gold medal.

This gives them a total of four gold medals. Two weeks prior, the Wolfpack received first-place gold in 3-v-3 Live in Waynesville. The other two gold medals were received in the Warrenton 4-v-4 League and 5-v-5 League tournament.

The Wolfpack had previously earned a third-place bronze in 3-v-3 live and a second-place silver last summer in the 3-v-3 Show-Me State Soccer fest giving them a total of six medals.

“The players are really coming together and working as one collective unit,” Coach Chris Williamson said. “This progression increases through each game. The model that we work through is the small side field structure of soccerplay starting with 3-v-3 then to the next field size 4-v-4, 5-v-5, 7-v-7 and finally 11-v-11.

“This concept really helps the players understand the buildup of adding more players to the field. The players can understand position, responsibilities, concepts of formations ,and play execution. Not to mention the amount of space and openings that can be created or used to be successful to accomplish objectives on the pitch. It’s all about soccer IQ and these players are showing that for sure. I am really excited to see the continuation of the accelerated training as we approach the one-year anniversary of this group.”

Jesus Garcia scored two goals in the first half of May 26's final game. A third goal was scored by Kenneth Guzman, ending the first half 3-0. The Ravens had a few shots on goal, but the goalkeeper Gonzalo Garcia would deny each attempt.

The second half would render a lockdown defense by Jibran Rodriguez and controlling his dribbling to be in range for shots on goal but not finding the back of the night. Alex Rodriquez would find the back of the net in the second half. Than Htway would find the back of the net as well. Kenneth Guzman would find the back of the net two more times.

The Wolfpack possessed the ball with patience to set up Jose Pena with the final goal to secure the victory. The Ravens scored off a free kick making the final score 8-1.

The Wolfpack will move on to the YMCA High School Boys 7-v-7 Summer League, starting July 7 in Jefferson City. They will follow up with a 4-v-4 Midnight Melee Tournament in Boonville, 3-v-3 Live Regional play qualifying for play in the National Championship in Alabama or 5-v-5 in Florida, and at the end of July play Show-Me State 11-v-11 to put all the concepts together seeking another gold.
