As the only Missouri school on Saturday, the Mexico boys finished high in the standings.
The Bulldogs were fifth out of 15 in The De Soto Wrestling Invitational with six finishing in the top three of their respective weight classes.
Carlos Juarez Ramirez at 106 pounds and Grant Van Horn at 175 each finished first with, respectively, four pinfalls and a technical fall and two pinfalls and two technical falls. Logan Hilderman at 113 and Brayden Arnold at 126 each finished second after Hilderman went 2-0 before losing 1-0 for first place and Arnold was 4-0 before being pinned. Evan Blair at 113 and Kyler Carr at 150 each finished third after Blair was 3-1 with three pins, and Carr was 4-1 with two pins.
Israel Hernandez at 144, Isai Hernandez at 157, Hunter Love at 165 and Grant Walker at 215 were each seventh; and Kyle Lewis at 138 and Travis Shramek at 285 were each eighth.
Centralia boys win Gary Haag Invitational in Brookfield
The Centralia boys were winners on Saturday in Brookfield.
The Panthers won the Gary Haag Invitational in a place that is home to a former Clarence Cannon Conference foe as they beat Brookfield for first place 83 points to 68 points. Four won their respective weight classes, including Charlie Robinson at 132 pounds with a 5-0 record and four pinfalls, Rex Bryson at 165 with a 5-0 record and three pinfalls, Ian Tuggle at 215 with a 5-0 record and four pinfalls and Marshall Kable at 285 with a 3-0 record and three pinfalls.
Finishing second were Gradon Hedberg at 106 pounds, Porter Douglass at 113B and Rayden Booska at 190B. Leighton Auck was third at 150B along with Louis Suddarth at 157 and Coulten Baker at 175 and Jonathan Williams was fourth at 138B.
Centralia girls win three firsts at Brookfield tournament
The Centralia girls won some of their brackets in Brookfield last weekend too.
The Lady Panthers had three finish in first at Friday’s Brookfield girls tournament, including Karli Andersen at 130B by going 3-0 with three pinfalls, Ava Ward at 135 pounds by going 5-0 with four pinfalls and Jayci Shelton at 170 by going 5-0 with four pinfalls.
Madie Shelton at 140 with 4-1 and four pinfalls and Kyleigh Dollens at 155B at 3-1 with three pinfalls were each second, and Avery Adams at 100 was third.
North Callaway finishes as conference runner-up in Lone Jack
The North Callaway boys took second in a tough conference matchup on Saturday in Lone Jack.
The Thunderbirds finished second behind host Lone Jack in the Greater Missouri Wrestling Conference Tournament, with five points behind Lone Jack’s 266 points. Lucas Riecke at 126 pounds after going 6-0 with five pinfalls, Collin Moore at 157 after going 6-0 with five pinfalls, Gunnar Wenneker at 285 with a 4-0 record and three pinfalls each finished first at their respective weight classes.
Aiden Wimmer at 132, Wyatt Haden at 165, Ben Haubner at 175 and Casper Safranski at 190 each were second; and Ryan Atterberry at 113, Jaren Dellashmutt at 120, John Higgins at 138, Cooper Safranki at 144 and Christian Moore at 150 were each third.
MMA finished third at St. Mary’s Southside
Missouri Military Academy wrestled to good results at an unfamiliar tournament.
The Colonels finished third out of 12 schools at St. Mary’s Southside in St. Louis on Saturday, and seven cadets earned medals. Deonte Kerns at 126 pounds, Blake Krull at 175 and Nathaniel Summers at 285 won their respective brackets, and finishing second was Ryan Miles at 150 and taking third were Daniel Bravo at 113, Marcus Miller at 132 and Michael Pfeifer at 138.
“We did not have our full varsity lineup for the day, so several junior varsity wrestlers stepped into a higher role and competed very well,” head coach Levi Iman said. “In addition, Pfeifer and Miles both secured their 20th win of the season.”
Kerns had three pinfalls before a forfeit victory, Krull had three pins and a major decision, and Summers had five pinfalls. Miles was 2-1 with a pinfall and 4-1 decision, and Pfeifer was 3-1 with two pinfalls and a 5-3 decision. Bravo had one pinfall, and Miller had three pinfalls.
