The Mexico boys saw action for the final time this regular season before districts next weekend.
Before hosting the Class 2 District 2 tournament, the Bulldogs competed in the Hillsboro Don Fuhrmann Duals and went 3-2 with wins of 38-34 over Rolla, 44-33 over Kirkwood and 49-23 over Pacific and losses of 56-20 to Hillsboro and 42-38 to Jefferson City.
Carlos Juarez Ramirez at 106 pounds and Logan Hilderman at 113 and 120 each were undefeated during the day, Kyler Carr stayed undefeated with three wins at 150 and one victory at 157 and Grant Van Horn won all of his matches at 175. Juarez Ramirez had 18-7 major decisions of 18-7 and 20-6 and a pinfall, Hilderman had two pinfalls and an 11-10 decision, Carr had three pinfalls and decisions of 11-5 and 11-8, and Van Horn had a pinfall and three technicals, including 20-2, 15-0 and 20-5.
Centralia boys finish fourth at final regular season tournament
The Centralia boys closed their regular season strong on Saturday.
The Panthers finished fourth out of 20 teams with 190.5 points at the Cody Greene Memorial Tournament at Seckman in Imperial. In a wave of tough competition, including the reigning Class 1 state champion St. Pius X (Kansas City), Centralia had four wrestlers finish second in their respective weight classes.
Ian Tuggle was second at 215 pounds after winning with two pinfalls and a 13-3 major decision and losing an 8-0 major decision to St. Pius X’s reigning state champion Jackson Rotterman. St. Pius X, who bumped up to Class 3 this season, won the team title with a resounding 408.5 points.
Rex Bryson was second at 165 after winning by two pinfalls and a 17-2 technical fall and losing a 7-2 decision to St. Pius X’s Noah Gonzalez. Charlie Robinson was second at 132 after winning three pinfalls and losing by a 17-7 major decision to St. Pius X’s Luke Cline. Bryson Dubes was second at 106 after winning by two pinfalls and losing by fall to Seckman’s Kaeman Orine.
North Callaway’s Giboney finishes third at Lady Thundering Herd
Brooke Giboney finished on the podium one weekend before the most important podium of the season.
The North Callaway junior finished third at 105 pounds the Lady Thundering Herd on Friday in Buffalo after going 3-1 with two pinfalls and an 8-1 decision over Warsaw’s Lillianna Perez.
