Mexico boys repeat as NCMC champions; Ramsey, Gordon individual champions
The Mexico boys are champions once again in the North Central Missouri Conference.
The Bulldogs won the conference title for the second straight year after finishing with 43 points — ahead of Hannibal’s 51 — Saturday at Green Estate Park in Mexico. Maggie Ramsey won the girls individual championship for the Lady Bulldogs while Riley Gordon was the junior varsity boys champion.
The Bulldogs had five all-conference runners, starting with Hunter Bickell with a fourth-place time of 17:47.83. Following him were Andrew Peuster in sixth with a 18:04.91, Brady McCoy in 10th with a 18:20.42, Tyler Grimes in 11th with a 18:23.85 and Carter Nading in 12th with a 18:29.37.
"We were battling some sickness and injuries, but the boys got it done,” head coach Lucas Breneman said. “I’m proud of the way the dug deep and fought for this one"
Ramsey won the varsity girls 5K with a time of 20:55.59. Emma Seibert had the next best Mexico girls time in 17th with a 23:47.12.
“Maggie had a goal to finish in the top two at this meet,” Breneman said. “As the race went, she kept closing the gap on first and with less than a mile to go, she moved into first and held it all the way to the finish.”
Gordon won the junior varsity boys race with a time of 19:43.36.
Van-Far, North Callaway finish with all-EMO runners
In Saturday’s Eastern Missouri Conference meet, Van-Far and North Callaway had runners finish among the conference’s best.
In the competition hosted by North Callaway in Kingdom City, Van-Far had two boys earn second-team all-EMO honors (eighth through 15th place): Garrett Hopke in 10th with a time of 18:49.81 and Slade Keller in 12th with a 18:56.73. North Callaway’s lone runner, Grace Rasmussen, finished sixth in the girls 5K with a 22:40.55 to earn first team all-conference honors.
Erin Childs and Khloe Wallace were near misses for the all-conference team on the Van-Far girls side, finishing with respective times of a 16th-place 24:17.09 and 17th-place 24:32.
