Area athletes qualify for state meet this weekend

Centralia, North Callaway, Missouri Military Academy at Class 3 Sectional 2 in Paris

The Centralia girls finished second with 70 points behind winner Palmyra’s 74.5 points.

Shelby Lewis was the sectional champion in the girls 400 with a time of 1:00.43 and qualified in the 200 with a second-place time of 26.11. She, along with Ryenn Gordon, Olivia Adams and Becca Erisman, are the district champions in the girls 4x400 with a time of 4:11.71. Gordon qualified in the girls 100 hurdles with a fourth-place time of 15.92 and also will go to state with 4x200 relay teammates Lewis, Erisman and Kaelyn Walters after finishing with a second-place time of 1:47.95. Cora King qualified in the girls shot put with a third-place throw of 10.53 meters, and Claire Brinkman will go in the girls high jump after a fourth-place height of 1.47 meters.

The Centralia boys finished seventh with 49 points.

The Panthers swept the hurdles with Beau Hatton being the sectional champion in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.83, and Cayden Dunn winning the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.94. Josh Russell qualified with a fourth-place discus throw of 40.37 meters. Rohan Holiman is going to state in the boys 800 with a fourth-place and school-record time of 1:56.83 and a fourth-place mark of 8:18.35 in the 4x800 along with teammates Eli Hill, Dryst Bostick and Wesley Robertson.

Isiah Craighead qualified for North Callaway in the boys javelin after a third-place throw of 51.71 meters while Pressley Schmauch missed state with seventh- and eighth-place finishes in the girls 1600 and 3200.

Alexander McBride missed state by one spot for Missouri Military Academy after finishing fifth in the boys 200 with a time of 22.93. Principia’s Eziuche Ejimadu took the last spot in fourth with a time of 22.57.

Centralia starts competing in the Class 3 state meet at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City around 10:30 a.m. Friday in the boys 4x800 relay and are in several events until the final girls 4x400 relay around 6:15 p.m. King begins Centralia’s second day on Saturday in the girls shot put at 9 a.m. Craighead throws the javelin for North Callaway around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Paris at Class 1 Sectional 2 in Paris

The Paris girls tied Gallatin for first place with 58 points.

The girls 4x800 relay team of Sophia Crusha, Kaylee Johnson, Mairyn Kinnaman and Ava Crain is the sectional champion after a school-record time of 10:34.02, and the girls 4x400 relay team of Crusha, Khloee Hendren, Johnson and Crain qualified after a second-place and school-record time of 4:29.91. Kinnaman finished second in the girls 3200 with a time of 12:44.52 to qualify for state in the event, Crusha was third in the girls 800 with a school-record time of 2:30.92, and Ava Crain was fourth in the girls 400 with a time of 1:04.52.

The Paris boys finished sixth with 57 points.

Landen Chapman is the boys 1600 sectional champion after a winning time of 4:45.59, and he also qualified in the 800 with a second-place time of 2:05.47 and in the 3200 with a second-place time of 10:49.73. He will race at state in the boys 4x800 relay along with teammates Owen Buie, Hayden DeOrnellas and Logan Mitchell after a third-place time of 8:53.84. Colton Kendrick finished second in the boys pole vault with a height of 3.54 meters.

Paris begins competing in the Class 1 state meet at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City on Friday with the boys pole vault at 9:30 a.m. and competes in several events until the final girls 4x400 relay block at 6:15 p.m. For the second day on Saturday, Paris begins with the girls 4x800 relay at 10:30 a.m. and will possibly end around 4:40 p.m. if the girls 4x400 relay team is in the finals.
