Bellamy, Bulldogs pound Battle

Abby Bellamy and Karlee Sefrit accounted for eight of the Bulldogs’ 16 hits, Jordyn Thurman allowed only three earned runs from the circle and Mexico pounded Battle 12-6 on the road Friday night.

The Bulldogs’ bats were hot from the start. Riley Thurman ripped the third pitch of the game to right center for three bases. She scored when Bellamy knocked a single down the right field line. Jordyn Thurman followed with a double.

Before the dust settled, Mexico had put four on the board and batted around.

Bellamy doubled and scored on a wild pitch to keep things going in the second. Lexie Willer’s speed on the bases gave the Bulldogs another run in the third.

At the time the score was critical. Battle stalked the Bulldogs with three in the first two innings. Willer’s run gave Mexico a 6-3 cushion.

The hosts would plate three more. But big innings by the Bulldogs in the fifth and sixth nullified their effort.

Taylor DeMint singled to lead off the fifth. She stole second and scored on a base hit by Bellamy.

Jordyn Thurman hammered a round tripper to center to tack three on the board.

Willer and Riley Thurman were perched on second and third with two down in the sixth when Bellamy found a pitch to her liking and drove it over the centerfield wall.

Bellamy was 4 for 5 with 4 runs and 4 RBI. Jordyn Thurman went 3 for 4, scoring twice and driving in three.

Thurman went the distance in the circle, scattering nine hits and walking just one.
