Ty Prince had a big day at the plate, on the mound and in the field on Saturday as the Bulldogs split a pair of games at the Eldon triangular.
In an 8-4 loss to California, Prince helped keep things close. He was 3 for 4, clubbing a fourth inning home run while playing flawless defense.
Prince was on the mound against Eldon, recording a 10-4 win. Along the way he fanned 14, allowing just one base on balls.
But the senior had plenty of help. Tyler Thoenen terrorized Eldon pitching, going 4-4 with three doubles.
It was Thoenen who got things started with an RBI two-bagger in the second. Two innings later, hits by Jesse Fennewald and Landyn Kleinsorge fueled a 3-run inning for the Bulldogs.
Daeye Miller and Brock Smythe also frequented the base paths.
Prince was working on a shut out, but ran into trouble in the sixth. Eldon’s Hunter Hees, Jason Holland and Cannon Ahart rallied the hosts, driving in 4 runs.
But Jack Wilburn came on in relief for Mexico to secure the win.
Will Dobyns threw well in the loss to California, allowing just five baserunners. But the Bulldogs were not able to piece together a big inning.
Fennewald and Andrew Runge took turns on the mound in relief. Prince, Fennewald and Thoenen had each collected more than one hit.
