Shelby Kennemore won a hard fought battle in the number one spot over Emma Neidig. Otherwise, the Bulldogs cruised to an 8-0 win at Boonville on Monday to start the fall tennis schedule.

Kennemore and Neidig were equally matched in the lead position. And the match went into overtime, with Kennemore gaining a  9-7 edge.

For the rest of the lineup the outcome was less dramatic. Estrella Lopez dropped two to claim a commanding 8-2 win over Kate Schneringer. Katie Gooch conceded one game to Abagail Pannell in an 8-1 romp.

Jocelyn Garcia had no trouble in the number five slot, sweeping Lilli Hendrix 8-0. It was the same for Lily Yager in the three match. She blanked Arjiana Webster in eight games.

Winona Whelan was on top 5-2 when the skies opened up. Rain shortened the final match, but it was enough to complete the singles sweep.

“It was a nice start to the season as the returners came out dominant,” said head coach Kim Costley.  Mexico’s lineup includes five who played at the varsity level for the first time a year ago.

“This year we are a little more seasoned and I hope that reflects in our scores moving forward,” Costley added.

Things went well in doubles competition. Actually, the outcomes were uniform.

Kennemore and Yager won their match 8-1. Gooch and Whelan, same score. Garcia and Lopez, also 8-1.

In junior varsity play, the Bulldogs went 2-3. Daida Herrara and Amelia Denham took an overtime thriller. Baylea Porter and Lucy Gleeson overpowered their opponents 6-2.
