TENNIS ROUNDUP: Mexico’s McKeown advances to singles sectional

It took longer because of a venue change, but Brendan McKeown is going back to sectionals.

The Mexico senior advanced to the Class 1 Sectional 3 matches at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairgrounds Park Netplex in Mexico after finishing second in Friday’s Class 1 District 6 individual district tournament. The day’s events began in Mexico, but the final round had to be finished in Fulton due to a technical issue with the lights.

Boston Davolt finished fourth place in singles to also be all-district.

Missouri Military Academy pair earns all-district honors

Missouri Military Academy tennis couldn’t quite advance anyone to the individual state tournament but had reason to celebrate Saturday.

Jose Anguiano and Francisco De La Maza finished third to earn all-district honors after advancing to the semifinals of the Class 2 District 5 tournament, one win away from state tournament qualification. Matches ended up lasting more than two hours due to tight competition.

Henry Scribner and Gaston Gastelum each lost in a third-set tiebreaker in singles quarterfinals, and Nathan Dempsey and Samuel Way also lost via a third-set tiebreaker in doubles quarterfinals.
