Centralia qualifies team for Class 2 state golf

The Centralia boys were one stroke away from winning a district golf team plaque but will still be sending a team.

Four Panthers qualified for the Class 2 state tournament on May 13-14 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, including all-district golfers Travis Brooks, Carter Moss and Cullen Bennett and Brady Schultz. The Class 2 District 2 tournament was played on the par 72 Norwoods Golf Club in Hannibal on Monday.

Brooks, Moss and Bennett finished back-to-back-back, with Brooks and Moss tying for fifth with an 80, or eight-over par, and Bennett finishing one stroke behind them in seventh. Schultz shot an 87 to nab the final spot in a tie for 19th. Braden Gaughan had a 100 in a tie for 46th out of 75 golfers.

Centralia had a team score of 328, behind Hermann’s 319 and Palmyra’s 327. Hermann’s Tigg Lindahl won the individual district championship with a 67.

Missouri Military Academy’s Ontiveros returns to state golf

Gabriel Ontiveros is going back to state.

The Missouri Military Academy senior qualified for the Class 2 boys golf state tournament for the second straight year after finishing close to all-state honors last season in 20th. On Monday on the par 72 Norwoods Golf Club in Hannibal in the Class 2 District 2 tournament, Ontiveros finished in a tie for eighth after shooting an 82, or 10-over par, which was good enough for all-district honors.

Carlos Ontiveros had MMA’s next best score of a 99 in a tie for 44th, Cooper Johnston had a 101 in a three-way tie for 48th, and Gaston Gastelum and Joseph Roach each had a 103 in a four-way tie for 51st.

Ontiveros competes in the state tournament May 13-14 at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville.

Mexico shut out of state at districts

Mexico won’t be sending any boys to state golf this season.

After the Class 3 District 2 tournament played on the par 70 Innsbrook Resort Golf Course, the Bulldogs didn’t qualify anybody for the Class 3 state tournament next week.

Aidan Knipfel had Mexico’s top score of 94, or 24-over par, to put him in a three-way tie for 43rd place out of 82 golfers. Kaiden Doebelin was next with a 97 in a three-way tie for 48th, Jacob Stephens was in a four-way tie for 51st with a 98, Houston Crow had a 116 in a three-way tie for 70th, and Eric Heaton had a 135 in a tie for 80th.

Priory’s Luke Glarner won the district championship with a 68, and Priory won the team title with a 300.

North Callaway misses state qualifier by one stroke

North Callaway came close to boys golf state on Monday, but it’s year ends.

In the Class 2 District 2 tournament on the par 72 Norwoods Golf Club in Hannibal, Tyler Huddleston shot an 88, or 16-over par, to finish in a three-way tie for 21st. He missed the state qualification cut by one stroke as Centralia’s Brady Schultz shot an 87 to grab the final spot.

Anthony Russell had the next best North Callaway score at a 93 in 34th place out of 75 golfers, Ajay Roberts had a 96 in a three-way tie for 38th, Clayton Moore had a 107 in a tie for 58th, and Vincent Houchins had a 131 in 73rd.
