The North Callaway Thunderbirds held off a third-quarter Van-Far rally, rolling to a 64-45 win in opening round play of the Bowling Green Tournament Tuesday. Callaway’s defense limited Van-Far to 15 first-half points, as the Thunderbirds took a 30-15 lead into the half.
Van-Far would chip away at the lead in the third, but the T-Birds answered with a 24-17 fourth quarter to advance to the semifinal winner’s bracket where they faced Clopton (results not available at press time).
Van-Far’s LaTrell Wright led all scorers with 28 points, followed by Damon Long and Nikos Connaway who each had 11 points.
Callaway senior Cody Cash had 25 points and added 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Cash had 13 first-half points.
“Cody had a good game,” said Callaway coach, Matt Miller.
Matthew Weber had 12 points and Sam Pezold had 11, hitting three 3-pointers.
“We set the tone early on the defensive side,” said Miller.
North Callaway carries a 9-8 overall record into the Clopton game. Van-Far is 5-10 entering their semi-final game.
