Brown hit a single that scored Blakely VanDyke to give Class 3 No. 2 Centralia a 3-2 walk-off win over Class 1 No. 1 St. Elizabeth (8-5) in eight innings in Jefferson City. Brown allowed two runs on three hits and two walks but kept balls in play at a premium against the two-time reigning state champion Lady Hornets.
St. Elizabeth tied the game at 2 on a fielder’s choice in the sixth inning. Its sophomore pitcher Azlyn Wyatt struck out nine and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk. All-stater Kinley Kemna had one hit but two RBIs.
The all-state Brown had the one hit for Centralia (9-4). Ealynne Bostick had an RBI double, Raleigh Dutton went 2-for-3, and VanDyke led off the eighth inning with a double.
The Lady Panthers snapped a two-game losing streak that happened on Friday with a 6-1 loss to Class 4 No. 5 Helias (9-4) and 6-4 loss to Odessa (5-5). They play another ranked team at a neutral site in Salem against Class 3 No. 6 Doniphan (6-1) at 11 a.m. Saturday.
