Centralia kept rolling even after its opponent Friday got in some shots.
The Class 2 No. 1 Panthers defeated Clarence Cannon Conference foe Clark County 62-20 to extend their winning streak to 15 over Clark County (1-5, 0-5 CCC) and also remain an undefeated 7-0 and 4-0 in conference. It is the best start to a Centralia football season since it started 7-0 in 2023.
Head coach Tyler Forsee said the offensive line did well again to help Centralia go over 500 yards for the third time this season with 504 yards and go at least 300 yards in all seven games. However, he said Clark County fought early, making Centralia’s lead 24-14 at one point of the second quarter.
“Clark County did a good job coming out and throwing the ball on us,” Forsee said. “We had to make some adjustments on defense. Coach (Ethan) Allen did a good job getting his kids ready, and he was proud of how his kids competed.”
Forsee said Centralia led Clark County 52-0 after the first quarter last year. This year, Bennett Plenge threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns on 14-for-23 passing. Regardless, he said the defense responded well to keep their offense at bay.
Oliver Bohlmeyer led Centralia with 265 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. Cooper Gehring ran for 108 yards and one touchdown on seven carries, Charlie Robinson ran for 39 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, and Cody Prater had 31 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.
Forsee said Centralia has been sharp every week, but it’s because of the efforts of all of the kids.
“We’ve returned a lot of experience from the year before, and those guys who having their first year of Friday Night Football are doing a good job of stepping up,” Forsee said. “We’re continuing to improve each week. You get more things we can fine-tune with some of those guys, and they’re doing a good job of being coachable.”
Centralia plays at Palmyra (5-2, 3-1 CCC) at 7 p.m. Friday and then hosts Class 1 No. 8 South Shelby (4-3, 2-2 CCC), who lost 41-0 to Palmyra last week.
“(Palmyra) has two kids that can score anytime they touch the ball,” Forsee said. “We’re going to have to tackle well and play good assignment football. Our big deal is defense this week to get some stops and get them out of their bread-and-butter.”
