The state of Missouri is going to the Little League World Series in softball and couldn’t have done it without Centralia.
Daniel Boone Little League out of Columbia defeated Indiana 4-3 on Friday in the Central Regional championship game in Whitestown, Indiana, thanks to a game-tying single by Centralia middle schooler Ealynne Bostick. She will go to the first round of the Little League World Series tournament at 10 a.m. Aug. 9 in Greenville, North Carolina, along with Centralia middle schoolers Jaylynn Brown and Karli Andersen.
Missouri won four games in five days, defeating Michigan 10-0, Iowa 17-0 and Ohio 5-2. Against Michigan, Bostick went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double and Brown finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and a double. In the rout of Iowa, Brown drove in three RBI while going 3-for-3 with a double, Bostick scored three runs and Andersen went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Missouri advanced to the championship after a victory against Ohio, thanks partly to Bostick going 2-for-2 with one RBI and a double and Brown allowing three hits and no runs in two innings pitched with three strikeouts.
In the championship game, Missouri fell behind 3-0 against Indiana in the first inning. Missouri was able to throw out a runner at home but not before surrendering an RBI single and double.
Missouri answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning but were in danger of giving that run back and then some in the fourth inning. After the first two batters hit into outs, Indiana loaded the bases before popping out.
Three straight Lady Panthers dug in at the plate in the bottom half of the fourth inning with two runners on and nobody out. Brown and Andersen both struck and then Bostick smacked the second pitch up the middle to score two runs to tie the game. Missouri scored the winning run in the fifth inning after a ground ball into left field missed two Indiana fielders’ gloves.
In the four regional games, Bostick hit to a .545 batting average while driving in five RBI, Brown had a .556 average and five RBI and Andersen hit .250.
Daniel Boone Little League plays Mid-Atlantic regional champion Delmar Little League out of Maryland in the first game of the first round.
