Community R-6 baseball seniors lead Trojans, earn postseason awards

After notable baseball careers, some Community R-6 seniors ended it with recognition.

Mason Carroll was named the Central Activities Conference MVP, and Eli Johnson earned all-conference honors as well. Carroll, Johnson, Brant Cope and Mason Rohan all were selected to the Class 1 District 9 team to cap a career that had them finish with a 12-8 record this year, a 48-33 record over the last four seasons and a state Final Four appearance last year.

As the team’s No. 1 pitcher, Carroll posted a 0.98 ERA and 0.828 WHIP and finished with an 8-2 record, 103 strikeouts, 44 hits, nine earned runs and nine walks in 64 innings. At the plate, Carroll hit with a .470 batting average, a .551 on-base percentage and an .833 slugging percentage along with four home runs, 31 hits, 25 RBI, eight doubles, two triples, 13 stolen bases out of 14 attempts, nine walks and eight strikeouts in 66 at-bats. He owned a .947 fielding percentage.

Johnson had a slash line of .477/.570/.692 along with 31 hits, 29 runs, 24 stolen bases out of 26 attempts, 20 doubles, 16 RBI, eight walks, eight strikeouts, and one home run in 65 at-bats.

Cope finished with a slash line of .313/.356/.391, 30 hits, 20 RBI, 12 stolen bases out of 12 attempts, six walks, five strikeouts and five doubles in 65 at-bats.

Rohan had a slash line of .310/.429/.483, 18 hits, 16 RBI, nine doubles, 15 strikeouts, eight stolen bases out of 12 attempts and seven walks in 58 at-bats.
