Community R-6 opened its fall baseball season in a positive way.
The Trojans did lose the opener 11-0 at Atlanta (4-0) on Sept. 3 but have had double-digit scoring days since then to move to a 2-1 record. They won 11-3 at Bevier on Thursday and then beat Calvary Lutheran 12-7 at home on Friday.
Community scored seven runs in the fifth inning against Calvary Lutheran (0-4), stealing 12 bases. Cooper Rohan led with three RBI, and Houston Hogan and Ean Johnson each had two RBI and a double. Nik Crider struck out five in two shutout innings, Drake Welch struck out six and allowed one earned run in 2 2/3 innings, and Kyler Swaim struck out four in 2 1/3 innings.
The baserunning was active at Bevier (0-1) as well, with the Trojans stealing 16 bases. Rohan went 3-for-4 with three RBI, three stolen bases and a double; Drake Welch had two RBI and a home run, and Kyler Swaim finished 3-for-5.
Community hosts Sturgeon (1-0) at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
