Natalie Thomas took her final college throws.

It fittingly was on the national stage for the former NAIA All-American javelin thrower. The William Woods University senior and former Community R-6 Lady Trojans competed in the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Marion, Ind., on May 22.

Thomas finished 13th out of 31 qualifiers, missing top-8 All-American honors this year but recording the third-best throw in her career at 41.14 meters. She sat as high as fifth place at one point but fell in the standings after two flights of throwers took their turns.

It was Thomas’ fourth time qualifying for the national championships, and she is a two time American Midwest Conference first-team javelin thrower in 2021-22. She set the school record of 42.85 meters in her 2022 All-American season.

Her second-place finish at the AMC Outdoor Championships this year helped the women win the program’s ninth conference title. Thomas met the ‘A’ standard with a 40.69-meter throw to qualify for nationals and her two other throws at the meet were above the ‘B’ standard of 39.50 meters.

In basketball, Thomas is a four-time all-conference player and scored 1,188 points in her career.
