Community R-6 almost made up for early mistakes Tuesday in Clopton.

The Trojans allowed five runs in the first inning and about reached that total of runs in the seventh inning to tie the game but fell short 6-5.

Mason Carroll pitched a complete six innings for Community (1-1), allowing 11 hits and three earned runs and striking out 12. Clopton (1-0) jumped on Carroll early by loading the bases with no outs in the first inning, picking up doubles on a fly ball and a bunt in the frame for a 5-0 lead.

Tyler Jarrett had a 3-for-3 day at the plate, including the go-ahead RBI single in the fourth inning, but shined mostly on the mound for the Hawks until the Trojans mounted a rally in the seventh started by Carroll’s leadoff double. The next five batters reached, including Ayden Meranda on an error that scored a run and Mason Rohan driving in two runs on a single to make it 6-5.

Tyler Kuntz was brought in after Jarrett posted a line of 10 hits, six strikeouts and five runs in 6 1/3 innings and struck out the final two batters that stranded the tying run at third base.

Shane Woodson finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, Brant Cope went 2-for-3 and Carroll was also 2-for-3 with a double.

Community travels to Paris (1-0) at 5 p.m. Monday.
