Nothing was going right for the Community R-6 boys from the outset on Tuesday night.
The Trojans lost one of their ball handlers at the start of the game and committed their most turnovers of the season to lose 65-33 at Central Activities Conference foe Cairo (13-7, 5-0 CAC).
Head coach Tad Shotten said he certainly didn’t envision the Trojans (11-11, 3-3 CAC) playing that way, and they just had a difficult time handling Cairo’s defensive pressure.
“We didn't match their intensity and had our most amount of turnovers on the year,” Shotten said. “I was happy with our fight in the second half, but we just didn't have it in us tonight. A little adversity right now isn't a bad thing with districts in a few weeks. Hopefully this loss causes us to refocus and not let us get comfortable.”
Tucker Robnett led Community with nine points, and Gavin Allen and Mason Carroll each followed with eight points.
Community played its homecoming game Friday night against conference foe Pilot Grove (9-12, 1-4 CAC) before hosting conference foe Sturgeon (5-14, 2-4 CAC) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Lady Trojans lost 50-24 at Class 2 No. 3 and Central Activities Conference foe Cairo (18-2, 5-0 CAC) on Tuesday night. Community’s overall record fell to 17-4 and its conference record fell to 5-1 after losing its second straight game following a 10-game winning streak.
