Community R-6 softball splits triangular vs Linn, Harrisburg
In one game on Saturday, Community R-6 softball struggled late but were sharp early in another.
The Lady Trojans split their two games in a triangular played in Harrisburg, losing 7-2 to Linn and then winning 15-4 against Harrisburg in five innings. Community allowed one run in the fifth inning and then four runs in the sixth to lose to Linn but then finished with 10 hits spread amongst seven Lady Trojans against Harrisburg.
The game against Linn (18-6) was tied at 2 after the third inning when Paige Painter hit a two-RBI home run for her fourth long ball of the season. That was Community’s first hit since a leadoff single by Rylee Rafferty in the first inning.
The Lady Wildcats picked up a double with two outs in the fifth inning against Jocelyn Curtis and then scored the runner. After the Lady Trojans couldn’t take advantage of two runners on after an error in the top of the sixth inning, Linn capitalized by scoring on an error following a double in the bottom half of the sixth and then had three more RBI hits in the inning. Curtis finished with six innings of 10 hits, three earned runs and two strikeouts.
The Lady Trojans couldn’t get another hit against Sophia Voss and finished with three hits against her. Taylor Johnson had two walks, Rafferty and Brooklynn Glasgow each drew a walk, and Chloe Johnson had a hit.
Community busted the Harrisburg (6-17) game wide open after a five-run second inning and then locked it up after scoring six runs in the fourth inning. Alyssa Beamer and Chloe Johnson each had a hit early in the second inning as part of their respective 3-for-4 and 2-for-3 days at the plate. The Lady Trojans didn’t need a hit after that to score that many runs in the second inning.
Beamer and Johnson each picked up RBI in the fourth inning, which contained four of Harrisburg’s eight errors. The Lady Bulldogs allowed eight unearned runs while Painter allowed four unearned runs on two hits and one walk while striking out three in five innings. Curtis was credited with three RBI.
Community (22-8) hosted Elsberry (16-4-1) at 5 p.m. Tuesday for its regular season finale before starting districts at 3 p.m. Saturday at Westran in Huntsville.
