Lady Trojans play with poise in 53-33 district win vs Glasgow
The Community R-6 girls are primed for playoffs yet again.
The Lady Trojans have played many important games in the past, and their seniors showed that big-game poise with a 53-33 victory against Glasgow (11-15) on Thursday in the semifinals of the Class 1 District 10 tournament in Madison. Community (21-5) sneaked away with a 46-43 at Glasgow weeks ago but won more decisively after getting 35 points from its three seniors.
Sarah Angel led with 18 points, five steals and five assists, Olivia Kuda followed with nine points and seven rebounds, and Kayla Jett added eight points.
The Lady Trojans were 12-for-15 from the free throw line, which impressed head coach Bob Curtis before they play for a district title at 1 p.m. today against Wellsville-Middletown (16-10), who defeated Higbee 67-41 on Thursday.
Ladybirds season ends at hands of battered Hermann 67-58
Hermann may have had several players out due to injury on Thursday but still had enough to topple the North Callaway girls.
Ava Hughes led the Lady Bearcats with 25 points to hand North Callaway a 67-58 semifinal loss in the Class 3 District 7 Tournament at South Callaway in Mokane, ending the Ladybirds’ season at 15-12.
Head coach Tim Turlington said North Callaway just couldn’t stop Hughes and Hermann from driving to the rim as Hughes finished 14-for-19 at the free throw line and the Lady Bearcats were 20-for-28 from the line.
Natalie Shryock led the Ladybirds with 16 points and two 3-pointers, Lakyn Hartley followed with 12 points and six rebounds, Riley Blevins had nine points and six assists, Abrielle Burgher had eight points and seven assists, and senior Jalyn Leible scored seven points in what Turlington described “one of her best games of the season.”
