An agreement signed between Wisper Internet and Sho-Me Technologies is expected to advance the effort to bring high-speed internet service statewide, company officials said in a news release.
The arrangement will provide Wisper access to Sho-Me Technologies’ existing fiber optic network that spans 4,200 miles.
Wisper is an internet service provider with 16,000 current subscribers in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Wisper plans to focus a large portion of its resources toward expansion in Missouri.
Sho-Me Techologies is a subsidiary of Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative and has been operating a regional fiber optic network since 1997.
“We are happy to work with Wisper to help extend broadband service to many of the unserved and underserved areas of rural Missouri,” Sho-Me CEO and general manager John T. Richards, wrote in the news release.
Wisper CEO Nathan Stooke wrote in the news release that expansion efforts in Missouri have been on the company’s radar.
“The future of internet access in Missouri looks bright,” Stooke wrote in the news release.
