The Community Healthcare Task Force held its first focus group meeting July 16.
There were 25 people in attendance, who offered feedback on what services they would like to see restored at the Audrain County Hospital, currently operating as SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital — Audrain. They also provided input on what they expect from a local hospital.
The resounding response was the return of obstetric, anesthesia, radiology and cancer center services, according to a news release.
The focus group is chaired by Sherry Medley and Eastern District Commissioner Alan Winders.
Around one-quarter of Audrain County residents utilize hospital services, according to the release. Between 45-50% of residents need to use hospital services to make it a viable health care provider.
The task force is promoting a petition for additional feedback through a hospital services survey. Questions include considerations of care sought in Audrain County and where residents currently receive medical services. The survey was available through Friday and as of Monday had collected 558 responses.
SSM Health signed a letter-of-intent to sell the hospital to Noble Health, which also manages the Fulton Medical Center. If negotiations are successful, the sale may be finalized by the end of the year.
The Community Health Care Task Force includes representatives from the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce, city of Mexico, the Hospital Foundation, Audrain County officials and other local supporters.
The task force provides updates through its Facebook Page, “My Health. My Hospital.”
