Paris softball head coach Collin Huffman has reached a milestone worth celebrating: 100 career wins.
The milestone victory came on Oct. 5, when the Lady Coyotes defeated Knox County 13-5. This achievement also ranks Huffman as the second-winningest softball coach in school history, behind his current assistant coach, Rick Reading.
To commemorate the occasion, the senior girls presented Huffman with a softball signed by the team — a keepsake recognizing his milestone and the players who helped make it possible.
Now in his ninth year as head coach, Huffman has guided the Lady Coyotes through a historic stretch of success, bringing tournament titles, conference honors and a state finish to the program.
A turning point came in 2023, when Paris finished 13-12, earning the softball program’s first winning record in 11 years. That season laid the groundwork for a record-breaking year in 2024.
The Coyotes set a school record with 23 wins in 2024, captured a district championship and finished fourth in the state. Huffman’s leadership earned him District Coach of the Year honors.
Paris continued its success in 2025, winning both the Paris Tournament and the Lewis and Clark Conference championship. The Lady Coyotes also finished second in districts, and Huffman was named Conference Coach of the Year. His accomplishments include three first-place finishes at the North Shelby Tournament.
The Lady Coyotes finished the regular season this year 17-9 with a 3-2 victory Thursday at district foe Sturgeon, giving them their fourth straight winning season and a seven-game winning streak going into the Class 1 District 4 tournament, which began Tuesday at Van-Far. Ava Crain pitched seven innings against Sturgeon with eight strikeouts, three hits, one earned run and one walk, and Lily Wheaton had two RBIs.
Paris is 6-1 against district opponents this year, with its only loss being a 10-9 defeat in eight innings at Cairo in the fourth game of the season. The Lady Coyotes (17-9) has the No. 2 seed in the Class 1 District 4 tournament at Van-Far and will face the winning of No. 7 seed Strurgeon (8-13) and No. 10 seed Wellsville-Middletown (1-16) on Thursday at 8 p.m.
