Kennemore's outstanding run ends in sectionals

Shelby Kennemore knew she would face a tough climb against Whitfield sensation Ellior Rose in sectional play, even with a home court advantage.

Rose, after all, had been to state three years and had readily dispatched singles opponents throughout the season.

On Friday at the Fairgrounds Park Netplex, she prevailed again 6-0, 6-2. Yet Kennemore volleyed with Rose throughout the match.

Indeed, Kennemore never allowed Rose to pull too far away during the second set.

"I started off rough," Kennemore said. "But I got a couple of games, so that's good."

Sectional play wrapped up a great season for both Kennemore and the Bulldogs. The Mexico junior earned all conference and all district.

"I definitely improved a lot," she said. "At the beginning of the season I couldn't do what I just did."
