The North Callaway Thunderbirds football team will have a new coach when the 2022 season begins as Kevin O’Neal returns to the sidelines.
A 1994 North Callaway High School graduate, Coach O’Neal will continue in his current position as activities director.
He takes over for 2021’s coach, Travis Blevins.
Coaching is nothing new for O’Neal, who was the head football coach for five seasons at North Callaway from 2014-18. During that time,he posted a career record of 36 wins and 20 losses. In 2017, the Thunderbirds ended the year with 11 wins, the conference and district championships, and ranked seventh in the state for Class 2.
O’Neal received the honors of Eastern Missouri (EMO) Conference and Class 2 District 5 Coach of the Year. His other coaching experience includes North Callaway offensive coordinator from 2006-13, Westminster College offensive coordinator 2005-06, Westminster College offensive line coach 2001-05, and North Callaway co-defensive coordinator 2000-01.
In 2018, his team was awarded the Allen L. Conner Youth Award for Community Service from the Callaway Chamber of Commerce.
“Coach O’Neal and his family are valuable and loyal members of Thunderbird Nation,” said a school official. “North Callaway School District is very excited to have Coach O’Neal returning to the sidelines and leading the Thunderbird football program.”
