Posted

Paris added another notch to its belt this season.

The Lady Coyotes were already off to their best start in at least 20 years and earned a eighth ranking in the first Class 1 state poll but added a third-place finish in their home tournament on Saturday in Paris. They defeated district foe North Shelby for the third time this season by a score of 2-1 (Paris won by previous scores of 4-0 and 2-1). Reese Sutton's first-inning two-RBI home run was enough as Ava Crain (eight strikeouts, six hits and one unearned run in five innings)  and Kennedy Ashenfelter combined for 10 strikeouts and eight hits in seven innings pitched. Paris also defeated Mark Twain for the second time this year by a score of 12-1 and then lost 5-4 to district foe Community R-6  in the third meeting between the teams this season.

Sutton finished with five RBI in the three games and struck out seven and allowed four hits and two earned runs in six innings pitched against Community. Ashenfelter struck out seven and allowed one unearned run in five innings against Mark Twain.

Paris, who at 15-4 is already one win better than 2012's 14-10 team, plays at Madison (3-10) at 5 p.m. Monday.
