North Callaway clinches share of Eastern Missouri Conference title with 9-1 win at Montgomery County

North Callaway's offense has averaged close to 10 runs per game this season.

The Thunderbirds came close to that on Tuesday at Montgomery County, defeating the Wildcats 9-1. They handed Montgomery (10-7, 6-1 EMO) its first Eastern Missouri Conference loss while North Callaway (13-6) maintained a perfect 9-0 EMO record for at least a share of the conference championship.

Tucker Sheets drove in almost all of those runs himself as he hit a grand slam in the third inning to make it 7-1.  He alredy had a two-RBI double in the three-run first inning and added two more with a two-bagger in the fourth inning set the final score.

Sheets was 4-for-4 at the plate, and Coltyn O'Neal was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

On the mound, Keaton Bell controlled Montgomery with seven innings of four-hit ball (all singles) along with five strikeouts and one walk. Bell threw only 68 pitches as he faced only three batters above the minimum, thanks to two double plays turned behind him.

Head coach Kirt Kleindienst said it was North Callaway's "all-around best game by far this season."

North Callaway begins the Southern Boone Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday in its pool hosted at Southern Boone in Ashland. The Thunderbirds face the host and Class 4 No. 3 Southern Boone (22-7) at that time, and then play Friday at the same site against Moberly (15-5) at 2:30 p.m. and Hallsville (5-16) at 5 p.m.

Mexico offense starts up late in 5-3 loss to Moberly

Despite Mexico finishing with three hits on Tuesday, it had a chance for victory.

The Bulldogs left the bases loaded in the seventh inning at home to loss 5-3 to North Central Missouri Conference foe Moberly. Carson Fletcher allowed two runs in six innings for the Spartans, who received votes in the most recent Class 4 state poll.

Brady Fox countered with six hits, five runs (two earned) and four walks in 6 1/3 innings. The Mexico offense didn't have a strong counter for Fletcher through five innings by going hitless.

Drew DeMint broke up the no-hitter in the sixth inning with a two-RBI single to make it 3-2 Moberly. A walk and an error scored for Moberly in the seventh inning, though, for a 5-2 lead.

Austin Maxwell hit a RBI single in the seventh for Mexico, but the Bulldogs stranded the bases loaded.

Mexico begins the Southern Boone Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday against Eldon (16-7), playing in the pool hosted in Mexico. The Bulldogs will have two more tournament games on their home turf on Friday at noon against Class 3 No. 7 Fatima (16-8) and at 7:30 p.m. against Class 4 No. 9 Fulton (12-4).

Centralia backed on bases, by Robinson in 10-1 win against Highland

Centralia baserunners and Mattie Robinson could do whatever they wanted on Tuesday.

The Panthers stole 19 bases, and Robinson struck out nine in seven innings of three hits, one run and no walks in a 10-1 win over Highland (3-10, 0-5 CCC). Centralia (10-11, 4-3 CCC) bounces back from a Clarence Cannon Conference 3-1 loss against Palmyra with a conference victory at home.

Micah Danielson was credited with four stolen bases, Robinson and Luke Waltemate each had three, and Mike Marcellus and Chase Kempker each had two.

Centralia's biggest inning was four runs in the fourth inning to increase its lead to 6-0. Henry Bohlmeyer and Danielson each stole home in the inning.

Bohlmeyer was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Marcellus was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Kempker was 2-for-4 with a RBI, and Anthony Ford had two RBI.

Centralia hosts Class 4 No. 2 Blair Oaks (17-11) at 5 p.m. Friday.

Mexico finishes second with two all-conference golfers at NCMC tournament

Mexico boys golf had twos in its results on Tuesday.

It wasn't literally on their scorecard, but rather the Bulldogs finished second in the North Central Missouri Conference tournament at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton. Jacob Stephens and Aidan Knipfel earned all-conference honors after shooting scores of 80 and 82, respectively.

Mexico had a 349 team score, which was only worse than champion Hannibal's 322. Kaiden Doebelin shot a 92, and Houston Crow had a 95.

Stephens score was good enough for fourth place, and Knipfel finished seventh. Hannibal's Quinn Thomas was the individual champion with a 76.
