Van-Far wins on Senior Night 11-1 against Wellsville-Middletown
Van-Far picked a good time for its second win.
The first happened in a tournament trophy game and then second occurred on Monday during Senior Night in an 11-1 victory over Eastern Missouri Conference foe Wellsville-Middletown (0-10, 0-5 EMO). Van-Far (2-11, 1-5 EMO) capitalized on five Wellsville errors to give more support to senior Dalana Gay, who allowed one unearned run on one hit and one walk and struck out 13 in five innings.
Trinity Skwirtz had two RBI, Elliott Utterback finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a triple, senior Kaelyn Hutcheson had a RBI, and seniors Reeve Woodall and Kayla Heaton each scored two runs.
Van-Far hosts conference foe Silex (8-11, 3-2 EMO) at 5 p.m. tonight.
North Callaway stunned by 8-7 loss at state-ranked Fulton
The lead changed hands several times, but North Callaway had the seventh-inning lead on Monday.
The Ladybirds led at Class 3 No. 7 Fulton 7-6 but allowed a two-RBI home run by Grace Evans to lose 8-7. Those were the only two runs allowed by relief pitcher Liv Knoepflein, and her only walk preceded the home run.
Evans lifted a pitch on the lower outside corner over the fence for North Callaway’s seventh straight loss against the Callaway County rival Lady Hornets (16-5). Lia Bondurant and Kendra Pennell each hit a home run over the fence for the Ladybirds, each recording their first career home run. Bondurant was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Pennell had a double along with her home run.
Knoepflein allowed six hits and struck out five.
North Callaway (16-7, 5-1 EMO) plays at Eastern Missouri Conference foe Louisiana (9-4, 5-2 EMO) at 5 p.m. today.
Centralia almost matches scoring season-high in 17-0 win at South Shelby
Centralia cruised on Monday night.
One game after having their season-high 13-game winning streak ended, the Lady Panthers almost matched their season-high 18 runs with a 17-0 victory in four innings at Clarence Cannon Conference foe South Shelby (13-8, 1-3 CCC). Centralia is a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
The Class 3 No. 4 Centralia (16-3) finished with 11 hits while Jaylynn Brown was perfect through four innings, retiring every batter and striking out 11 along the way. Brown hit a two-RBI home run in the first inning, Ealynne Bostick had three RBI and a triple, Cora King went 2-for-2 with two RBI, Tilly Fox finished 2-for-2 with three runs, and Claire Page had three RBI.
Centralia plays at conference foe Clark County (9-11, 0-3 CCC) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Paris defeats Madison in three innings 19-1
Paris wasn't on the field for long to start this week.
The Class 1 No. 8 Lady Coyotes defeated Madison 19-1 in three innings, finishing with 13 hits and only allowing two hits by Madison (3-11) Ava Crain allowed one unearned run, walked one and struck out four in three innings.
Reese Sutton hit a home run for the second straight game and was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double, Emma Ashenfelter was 2-for-2 with a RBI and a double, Crain, Knightlee Mitten, Gretchen Crusha and Ella Totten each had two RBI.
Paris (16-4, 3-0 L&C) hosts Lewis and Clark Conference foe Fayette (9-7, 0-1 L&C) at 5 p.m. tonight.
Mexico falls short 8-6 against Kirksville, commit five errors
Mexico displayed some power on Monday at home but also some shaky defense.
Maddy Feger hit a triple and double, and Payton Shaw blasted a home run but the Lady Bulldogs lost 8-6 to North Central Missouri Conference foe Kirksville after committing five errors. The Lady Tigers (9-11, 3-4 NCMC) outhit Mexico (9-12, 3-3 NCMC) 10-7, scoring seven of their runs in the first four innings.
Feger finished 2-for-4 with a RBI, Shaw had two RBI, Kenley Jones had a RBI and Hannah Loyd finished 2-for-4.
Keerstan Ewing allowed one earned run on 10 hits and one walk in seven innings pitched.
There will be junior varsity game tonight so Mexico hosts conference foe Marshall (9-10, 5-3 NCMC) at 6 p.m.
Community R-6 defense struggles again in 17-7 loss at Mark Twain
For the third straight game, the Community R-6 defense committed seven errors.
The Class 1 No. 6 Lady Trojans lost 17-7 at Mark Twain on Monday, allowing four unearned runs to go along with 14 hits by Mark Twain (11-10). Community (16-7) finished with eight hits but was playing catchup after a nine-run third inning by the Lady Tigers.
Lydia Hoyt finished 3-for-4 with a double and RBI, Jocelyn Curtis went 2-for-3 with a RBI and five other Lady Trojans picked up a RBI.
Community plays at Monroe City (13-4) at 5 p.m. tonight.

Centralia wins second-five setter against Wright City, celebrate two record breakers
For the second time this season, Centralia was victorious in a match that went the distance.
The Lady Panthers defeated Wright City (2-12-1) on the road in five sets (24-26, 17-25, 25-17, 25-18 and 15-6). Centralia is now 3-0 in five-set matches.
Centralia (6-13) recently announced that its match assists record was broken for the second time this season by Caris Finlay, who recorded 41 assists in a match. Ryenn Gordon also broke the match kills record with 27.
Centralia plays at rival Hallsville (8-7-1) at 7 p.m. tonight.
North Callaway loses in five-setter against Russellville
North Callaway has finally played a five-set match this season.
The Ladybirds played and lost their first one last night at home against Russellville (20-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 11-15). With the loss against Russellville (9-5), they lost their first match since Sept. 19.
Rylee Hortsman led the team with 12 kills, Alex Craighead followed with 11 kills and then Bailey Hill had nine kills. Peyton Boulware and Lakyn Hartley each finished with a team-high 29 digs.
North Callaway (6-8-2) plays at Eastern Missouri Conference foe Bowling Green (5-10-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Mexico snaps three-game losing streak, beats Fatima 3-0
Mexico is back in the win column.
The Bulldogs defeated Fatima (5-3) 3-0 at home on Monday night to end a three-game losing streak. Alfredo Lopez scored first on an assist by Isai Hernandez and then Gage Walker scored the next two goals on assists from Jesus Garcia and Nathan Rodriguez. Grant Walker made 10 saves in net.
Mexico (5-4) plays at district foe Southern Boone (6-4) at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
Fall baseball
Community R-6 defeats conference opponent Pilot Grove 10-0
It is the offseason, but it was still a good time to defeat a Central Activities Conference foe.
Community R-6 won 10-0 in five innings at home against Pilot Grove (0-7). The Trojans (4-6) only needed three hits after taking advantage of 11 walks by Pilot Grove pitching.
Ean Johnson had two RBI, and five other Trojans had at least one RBI. Lane Carter drew three walks, and Kyler Swaim and Carter Jennings each drew two walks.
Cooper Rohan struck out 11 and allowed one hit and one walk in five innings.
Community plays at another conference foe at 5 p.m. tonight in New Franklin (6-5).
