JEFFERSON CITY – Two state agencies will hold meetings around the state to prepare farmers for renewed flooding on the Missouri River.
In central Missouri, a meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m Tuesday at the Knight and Rucker Banquet Hall, 119 E. Broadway St., Brunswick.
A news release from the Missouri Farm Bureau states that the state Agriculture and Natural Resources departments will host the meetings in conjunction with the Farm Bureau, the Missouri Levee & Drainage District Association and the Coalition to Protect the Missouri River.
More than 1.4 million acres of farmland were not planted in 2019 due to flooding and excessive rain, the release stated. Many farmers, especially in northwest Missouri, are still trying to recover and numerous roads and bridges remain in need of repairs.
Levee breaks that have not been repaired could escalate crop insurance costs, the release stated.
Other meetings will be held Monday in Rock Port and St. Joseph and on Tuesday afternoon in Rhineland.
