Lady Bulldogs take two duals at St. Charles West

The Mexico girls had just won a duals tournament in Polo the previous weekend and stayed undefeated in duals on Tuesday.

Going into St. Charles West after winning three duals on Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs defeated St. Charles West 42-36 and then Lindbergh 39-24.

Abby Bowen, Karisa Hayden and Alexus Johns each had a pinfall against St. Charles West while Alizabeth Welch and Bowen pinned their Lindbergh opponents and Hayden won her Lindbergh match via a 3-0 decision.

Bulldogs finish third at Blair Oaks JV tournament

Several Bulldogs were at the top of the podium on Wednesday.

Mexico junior varsity finished third out of 19 schools at the Blair Oaks JV tournament in Wardsville after scoring 153 points — two behind second-place Jefferson City — because of six first-place finishers.

Evan Blair won the 106-pound weight class after three pinfalls, including one within the first minute; Jesus Garcia won three decision at 132c, including 10-3 and 5-3 decisions and then a 12-2 major decision; Kayle Martin won 138b after two pinfalls and a 12-6 decision; Evan Wilson was first at 138e after two pinfalls and a 9-0 major decision; Jacob Johnson won 165e after two pinfalls, including one within the first minute, and a close 7-6 loss to North Callaway’s Broden Herdzina; and Jayden Hodge was first at 190c after three pinfalls, including two within the first minute.

Placing second were Brayden Arnold at 113 and Nehemiah Bridges at 285d; placing third were Kyle Lewis at 132d, Isai Hernandez at 175, Kelvin Watson at 175d, and Travis Shramek at 285d; and taking fourth were Evin Ford at 150c and Kale Leverett at 285.

North Callaway finishes fifth in Blair Oaks JV tournament

Some of the North Callaway JV wrestlers stood above others on Wednesday.

The Thunderbirds finished fifth out of 19 schools with 122.5 points at the Blair Oaks JV tournament. Four finished first in their respective weight classes.

Eli Borcherding was first at 106b after two pinfalls; Leeam Gathright won 157d after decisions wins of 12-8 and 7-3 and a pinfall within the first minute; Vince Houchins was first at 165d after a 4-2 decision and two pinfalls; and Gunner Wenneker finished first at 285d after a 17-2 technical fall, a 3-2 ultimate tiebreaker and a 5-0 decision.

Placing second were Cooper Safranski at 138, Hayden Fansler at 175d and Anden Lobb at 175c; placing third were Broden Herdzina at 165e and Justice Moore at 285; and taking fourth were Dillon Smith at 132d, John Higgins at 132c and Levi Huffman at 157c.

Also on Wednesday at Blair Oaks, Brooke Giboney finished second at 105 pounds in a girls tournament after being pinned twice by California’s Camryn Wingate and Addison Fansler was ninth at 125 after going 0-4.
