Why are you running and why should people vote for you?
I am running for Audrain County Treasurer because I have spent almost half of my life working in county government in the County Clerk’s Office. I want to take the experience from the last 24 years in that office and the last 8 years as County Clerk and continue working for the residents of the County. As County Clerk I am the budget officer for a $40 million budget. I create the County’s budget and moderate it closely to make sure it stays within that budget.
As County Clerk I make sure that the County Treasurer knows the amount of tax money to give to the schools from the railroads and utility companies and help the taxing entities in the County to set their tax rates, I am also involved in choosing a bank to have the County’s accounts in as well as being involved in investment opportunities that will be most beneficial for the taxpayers money. As clerk a lot of what I do works hand in hand with what the County Treasurer does. I work very closely with the treasurer in many aspects for the County.
What are your goals if elected?
The relationships I have built with the cities, road districts, school districts, other taxing entities as well as business owners and the residents of Audrain County proves that am experienced, knowledgeable, transparent and trustworthy to continue a career in county government. I have been dedicated to the residents of Audrain County as County Clerk and it is my goal to continue to be dedicated as the next Audrain County Treasurer.
What issues are most pressing for your constituency?
Audrain County’s taxpayers want to know that their tax dollars are being handled carefully and that Audrain County is operating fiscally responsible manner. As County Treasurer, I believe it is essential to safeguard public funds, provide accurate financial reporting, and work cooperatively with other county offices to ensure sound financial management.
In this day and age the County faces ongoing challenges related to rising costs and limited resources. It is important that every dollar is accounted for and invested wisely so that Audrain County can continue providing the services our citizens depend on. If elected I will focus on accountability, transparency, and protecting the financial interests of the taxpayers of the County. Audrain County is my home, my county and I want the very best for it.
