The Mexico girls’ consolation game Saturday in the Harrisburg Tournament became out of reach.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed 17-11 after one quarter but was outscored 17-7 in the second quarter and then 22-6 in the third quarter to lose 61-39.

Head coach Ed Costley said Mexico (7-12) played at the pace it needed in the first quarter but were outplayed in key areas.

“Linn picked up too many second-chance points on offensive rebounds that gave them some open looks from 3-point line,” Costley said. “Their big guards gave us some issues in the third when they posted up against our guards.”

Lexie Willer led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points, Messiah Simpson followed with nine points, Claire Hudson had eight points and four steals, and Jo Thurman finished with three steals.

Linn (12-7) was 13-for-19 from the free throw line and 8-for-18 from 3-point territory. Stephens College commit Aushara Hostetler knocked down seven of those 3-pointers.

Mexico (3-2 NCMC) played at Macon (5-12) on Tuesday before hosting North Central Missouri Conference foe Moberly (10-7, 3-0 NCMC) at 6:15 p.m. Friday.
