The Mexico girls soccer program was able to double its win total from a year ago.
Two big reasons why earned postseason awards. Junior Claire Hudson was named as a second-team all-conference forward in the North Central Missouri Conference, and junior Emily Moppin was selected as a all-district midfielder in Class 2 District 3.
Hudson scored 19 goals this season, which head coach Sarah Olson said was five more than the team’s total last year and 60 percent of the Lady Bulldogs’ goals this year.
“She was such a threat to other teams, always worked hard and created so many opportunities for our team this year,” Olson said. “That also makes her an all-conference athlete in three sports this year (basketball and tennis) which is extremely impressive and just shows how outstanding of an athlete she is.”
Moppin had two goals this year, but Olson said she was “instrumental” in everything Mexico did on the field this season.
“Most midfielders take breaks, but she probably only sat out for a total of 20 minutes combined all season because she is extremely fit and a very hard worker,” Olson said. “She would be all over the field for us creating plays and also helping on defense. We needed her to be everywhere and she was.”
