Some Mexico kids bounced back to capture gold this summer.
The Wolfpack Academy Elite soccer team, which has Mexico graduates Kevin Lopez and Fernando Guzman and is owned by former Mexico High School coach Chris Williamson, went undefeated in a tournament two weekends ago at Allison Sports Town in Springfield.
The Wolfpack lost to state champion Marshall in an early July 4-on-4 tournament in Boonville but then, in a 5-on-5 format, defeated some of the best club teams in Springfield as well as some squads from Arkansas and Oklahoma. Guzman was not available during the Springfield tournament, but Lopez played right before the enlisted Marine shipped out on July 31.
“In order to play at a high level, you have to venture out and go where being competitive is a must, especially if you wanna have a future,” Williamson said. “Never waste your talent, believe in it and do it.”
The Wolfpack Academy Elite program has been in place for almost two decades. The program is diversified with a variety of players of all ethnicities from different areas of Missouri. They do practices as well as virtual practice.
