More than 50 vehicles and a dozen motorcycles participated in the Route 54 Caravan of Caring on Saturday to nursing homes in Mexico.
Organized by the Mexico and Fulton Rotary Clubs, the caravan was deemed a success.
“We had families and residents from surrounding communities, as well as car clubs and other organizations join in,” Fulton Rotary Community Service Chair Jan Reyes said. “I was really pleased at the turnout.
Reyes was aided in organizing the event by Josh Hanley and Susan Steit. Participants met at Mexico High School where they proceeded to drive by Pin Oaks, Kings Daughters, Teal Lake Assisted Living and Missouri Veterans Home.
It was a special event for Missouri Veterans Home Resident Phil Reynolds, who is a longtime Fulton Rotary member. He was celebrating his birthday. His family drove from Texas to participate in the parade and surprise him.
