If Mexico quarterbacks were throwing the ball, it’s likely their target was Shannon Dorsey. Come fall, a new signal caller will look to the Bulldogs wide receiver.
On March 1, Dorsey signed a national letter of intent to play football for Westminster College in Fulton. The official ceremony had been postponed three times in February due to pandemic-related school closures, so the event came as a relief.
“It still feels pretty great,” Dorsey said. “College football was my dream.”
Several schools were in the running for his services. Westminster’s coaches were interested in using Dorsey as a wideout, while the others wanted him to consider playing on the defensive side.
That was one reason he selected Westminster, where he will be joined by Mexico teammate Dante Billups.
“They gave me a good feeling,” Dorsey said.
He credited the coaching staff at Mexico for helping him reach the next level. And Bulldogs head coach Steve Haag had equal praise for his departing standout.
“Shannon probably grew as much as anyone as a leader and player during his time at Mexico,” Haag said. “He was voted team captain two years, which tells you how much the players thought of him.”
Dorsey plans to study sports marketing at Westminster.
