For the second straight year, Brendan McKeown made the podium.
The Mexico senior followed his seventh-place all-state medal at last year’s Class 1 state individual tournament at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield with an eighth-place medal on Saturday. He finishes his career as a back-to-back state medalist and with a career singles record of 77-23.
McKeown defeated Arcadia Valley’s Wren Blount 6-1, 6-2 in his first-round match on Friday but then lost 6-1, 6-3 to Benton’s eventual third-place medalist Ridge Stagner. He finished the day by winning via a third-set tiebreaker to at least earn a medal before losing two matches on Saturday.
