Missouri Military Academy is extending its campus containment period through April 30. The contained campus status was to end Friday before the extension.
There are no known cases of COVID-19 in Audrain County. Seven tests have come back negative as of Tuesday morning, with seven more results pending.
The containment period started March 13.
“We will remain vigilant in our efforts to support the health of our MMA community,” Academy President Brig. Gen. Richard Geraci, retired, said at the time.
The campus is closed to visitors or vendors who are not essential to campus operations. Cadets have not left campus and all off-campus trips were canceled. Cadets have had minimal contact with those outside of academy faculty and staff.
“I want to thank the community for their support of our containment period and to commend the work of Audrain County Health Department [administrator] Dr. Sandra Hewlett and her team in leading our local response to the pandemic,” Geraci said in a news release.
Academy staff continue to review data concerning the pandemic and follow the guidance of the health department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over the next month. The containment may receive further extensions based on guidance from public health officials, the release stated.
