The Missouri Military Academy middle school wrestling team started its season last week with a meet on Nov. 16 in Kingdom City against North Callaway and Mexico before hosting California two days later.
Easton Nance finished with a 5-0 through the two meets, winning by pinfall four times and major decision once. Michael Lowery finished with a winning record of 3-1, scoring three pinfalls.
“We had our first meet Wednesday against two strong programs and learned what we needed to correct and improve upon,” head coach Tom Allen said about the Nov. 16 meet. “So Thursday that is what we did in the practice room. The cadets all responded and worked hard and the improvements really showed Friday night. We have a high school cadre of fellow wrestlers that take pride in their younger teammates and help guide them both on the mat and through visible support on the sidelines at the matches.
“Many of our wrestlers are new to the sport and have a lot to learn but are learning fast,” Allen said about the Nov. 18 meet. “The interest and enthusiasm of our middle school wrestlers is the best I have seen since starting middle school wrestling four years ago. Every wrestler whether they won or lost showed they have been working hard learning the moves and increasing their cardio fitness.”
