In a big season for the Colonels, the big guys are leading the way.

Missouri Military Academy’s wrestling squad is 14-3 in duals as the regular season winds down. And their lineup at 182 and above have combined for a 55-7 mark in individual matches.

The 182-pounder, Christopher Bryant, is unbeaten on the season at 14-0. Phasakorn Cunningham at 195 also has 14 wins against 3 defeats. Noah Johnson (220) is 13-2 and heavyweights Pablo Garduno at 6-1 and Telmen Nasanbat’s 8-2 made for strong finishes.

Two of the team losses this season came against North Callaway. MMA head coach Thomas Allen noted that the Thunderbirds are well coached and very disciplined, making for tough competition.

“We gave them a good duel, but they are very solid,” he said of North Callaway. “I look for them to do very well in the post season.”

It’s not just the big guys that rack up the points for MMA. At 113 Landon Kjolhede is 12-4. In the 152 class Gabriel Canonico has a 13-2 mark. Darion Heavens is 5-2 at 138. Meanwhile newcomer Narathorn Cunningham, who joined the team in January, gives them a threat at 106.

He is 3-0 this year.

The Colonels mat team includes Cecil Noah (2-2, 126), William Cash (1-1, 132), Brett Miles (4-4, 145), Ryan Stafford (6-4, 160) and Skyler Hineman (5-7. 170).

Six other wrestlers have appeared in varsity matches this season for the Colonels, with Nasanbat standing out. Oskar Fontana was 5-2, Landon Meyer 4-2. Guanhong Song won his only match, while Stephen Clary and Colton Higgins split.
