Sadie Hoyt of Community R-VI scored 10 points Friday to help her Class 1 No. 1 state-ranked Lady Trojans celebrate senior night with a solid 65-22 home victory against Madison. Hoyt was one of six senior players recognized along with their families.

CommunityR-VI girls sent a fond farewell to their six upperclassmen Feb. 21 when they played their final home basketball game at Scott's Corner when the Lady Trojans celebrated senior night with a 65-22 triumph against Madison in Central Activities Conference action.

The Class 1 No. 1 ranked Lady Trojans, and the top-seed in this week's District 10 tournament taking place at Sturgeon High School, had unknowingly at the time acquired enough points to seal the victory against Madison when the first quarter ended.

Community (23-1, 10-0 CAC), a third place finisher at the state championships a year ago, led the Panthers 23-2 after the first eight minutes, 34-11 by halftime and they outscored their guests 20 to 9 in the third.

“Once again the first quarter laid the foundation for the rest of the game,” Community girls coach Bob Curtis said. “For the most part we are healthy going into districts, and we need to put five quality games together as we want to get back to the Final Four.”

A trio of seniors led the way with each of them in double figures. Dalaney Bowers had 15 points and six steals, Natalie Thomas scored 13 points to accompany her four assists and five rebounds, and Sadie Hoyt finished with 10 points and had four rebounds.

Alexis Welch, a junior, dumped in eight points and had three rebounds while Emma Hombs supplied five points.

The other senior players honored along with their parents that night were Kaley Diesel, Deann Brooks and Lauryn Robnett.

“This senior class has compiled an eye-popping resume as basketball players and will be sorely missed in our program,” Curtis said. “They have embodied the idea of we don't rebuild, we reload.”

Coach Curtis pointed out that in addition to finishing third at state in 2019, this season's senior players have been part of three straight district and conference titles, seven regular season tournament championships, and two sectional and quarterfinal appearances.

“With every year they have won at a higher level than the year before as they have the school record for wins at 27. They are creeping in on 100 team wins over the course of four years and each year they dive deeper into the state playoffs,” added Curtis.

Community girls are scheduled to meet eighth seed Keytesville at 4:30 p.m. Monday to open play in the MSHSAA Class 1 District 10 Tournament at Sturgeon High School. Winner advances to the 6 p.m. semifinal Feb. 26 to play against the winner of Monday's game between (4) Madison and (5) Wellsville-Middletown.

Girls district championship is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28.
