Thunderbirds climb back over 500 with 64-55 win vs East Buchanan

North Callaway head coach Matt Miller felt Saturday was the Thunderbirds’ most complete game.

During the first game of the Hall of Fame Classic at Father Tolton in Columbia, North Callaway defeated East Buchanan 64-55 behind the 23 points and career-high 18 rebounds of Isiah Craighead in his first start coming off a concussion.

Craighead typically averaged 60 percent from the floor, and he made 7-of-13 shots from the field. Matthew Weber followed with 17 points and five 3-pointers, Sam Pezold finished with eight points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals, Braydn O’Neal had seven assists, and Trenton Jones blocked six shots.

Isaiah Watkins led East Buchanan (15-8) with 24 points and six 3-pointers, nailing three 3-pointers in the third quarter. The Bulldogs scored 23 points in that frame but were kept around 10 points the rest of the quarters.

The Thunderbirds (12-11) never trailed during the game while only allowing East Buchanan to get as close as 44-42 before pulling away.

North Callaway (4-4 EMO) hosted Eastern Missouri Conference foe Mark Twain (12-11, 3-5 EMO) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday before hosting conference opponent Bowling Green (10-10, 4-3 EMO) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for Senior Night.

Ladybirds close out Mark Twain early in 58-16 win

The North Callaway girls were able to notch a conference win early on Monday.

The Ladybirds surged out to a 25-4 lead after the first quarter and then a 42-7 halftime lead before defeating Eastern Missouri Conference foe Mark Twain 58-16. North Callaway (14-10, 6-3 EMO) finished with three double-digit scorers while preventing the Lady Tigers (0-21, 0-9 EMO) from having one double-digit quarter.

Riley Blevins led the Ladybirds with 21 points, five steals and three 3-pointers, Natalie Shryock followed with 16 points, four 3-pointers and three steals, and Lakyn Hartley had 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.

North Callaway has its Senior Night games on Thursday at home against conference foe Bowling Green, with Senior Night festivities starting at 5:40 p.m., the girls playing at 6 p.m. and then the boys going at 7:30 p.m.
